First decide whether change is valid
Operating data changes continuously, so today’s answer may reasonably differ from yesterday’s. The system should explain whether new data, a definition, access, or generation behavior caused the change.
A reproducibility record needs the question, structured conditions, user and project, data snapshot, semantic version, query or tool calls, generation time, and result version.
Data and semantic versions are easy to miss
Backfilled orders, refunds, late batches, and time-zone corrections can alter history. Formulas, default filters, and dimension mappings can change an answer without changing its wording.
Show the data cutoff and version semantic configuration with effective dates. Decide whether historical reports replay old definitions or recompute with new ones.
Identity and policy belong in the cache key
“Sales this month” should return different scopes for headquarters, region, and store users. A cache keyed only by question text can return a wrong result or expose data.
Include organization, project, policy, semantic and data versions, plus relevant filters. Invalidate entries after membership or policy changes.
Manage model change with regression
A model or tool-strategy upgrade may choose different fields, joins, or charts. Compare metrics, filters, access, data, and material conclusions rather than requiring identical prose.
Use deterministic tools, governed metrics, and human review for high-impact questions instead of unconstrained generation.
Accept reproducibility, not permanent sameness
With a fixed data snapshot and fixed configuration, the material calculation should repeat. If it does not, capture randomness, tool selection, and retry paths.
